This photo was taken on our Easter Weekend trip to my parents house in Mitchell Ontario. This is a classic Rural Image with a wonderful Blue sky in the background. The interesting note about image is that is was taken from our vehicle while traveling at 80km/h. The image was capture with my Minolta "Beer Can" lens at 135mm at 1/320th of a second at F11

Free File - Open Office

Open Office is the classic free file. Originally developed as Star Office in 1999 the office suite was purchased by Sun Micro Systems in 2000 and the code was released under the GNU Public license to offer a free alternative to Microsoft Office. The development by the open source community over the last 7 years has created an impressive suite of office apps at an unbeatable price, FREE !!! I have been using the Mac version of the suite NeoOffice for that last year and a half and the compatibility with Microsoft's product is unmatched. With Microsoft Office retailing at near $900.00 at Best Buy you should give it a try.

Apple Releases Aperture 2

This week Apple announced the release of Aperture 2. This upgrade to the original Aperture software has been long awaited. We have downloaded it and will install it so that we can post a review shortly. We are hoping the new version will offer a better experience and with the $100.00 dollar price drop make it a must have for any photographer to have as part of their workflow

Aperture

Aperture 2 gives photographers incredible tools to manage massive libraries, speed through photo edits, make essential image adjustments, and deliver photos online and in print using one simple, integrated workflow. Whether you shoot RAW or JPEG, Aperture lets you get the most out of your photography.

Over 100 new features in Aperture 2, including:

  • Image adjustment controls such as Highlight Recovery, Definition, Vibrancy, and Vignette
  • Retouch tool with soft-edged brush to remove unwanted elements from photos.
  • Next-generation RAW image processing for highest-quality images
  • Quick Preview mode for rapid-fire photo browsing
  • Simplified user interface that maximizes screen space and provides direct access to your iPhoto library from within Aperture
  • Integration with .Mac Web Gallery to instantly publish your photos, allowing visitors to view and download images.

This is a bonus photo. I took this photo last April on the shores of Lake Ontario. The shot is taken from the Burlington Side of the Lake looking South East towards the Hamilton Beach Strip. The shot was taken with the Sony A100 on a tripod. The only light was that from the moon. It was a 2 second exposure at 24mm with the camera set at ISO 800. The high ISO setting products the graining look that gives the shot its feel.

THIS WEEK IN PHOTOGRAPHY

"This week in Photography"
is a new Photography Blog and PodCast that is the brain child of Alex Lindsay and Scott Bourne of the Pixel Corps. It is a weekly podcast that covers all aspects of photography from hardware to software, reviews of new digital camera and photoshop techniques. We have been listening to the podcast for approximately a month now and find it to be one of the most informative shows out there. This week in photography is also a member of the Flickr community and maintains a flicker group where members can upload there photos for comments and contests. Visit This Week in Photography, you will not be disappointed.

This photo was take with our Sony A100 with a classic Minolta Lens. The "BeerCan" lens is a classic 70-210 F4 Zoom Lens from the old Minolta Line. This particular shot was take at F4.5, 210mm at 1/160 of a second. I like the neutral colours and depth of field
